Letting Go and Moving On

September is over. There have been a bunch of challenges. How can we help ourselves move on?

Take a piece of paper.

What were two particular moments of struggle or stress this month?

Name them. Write them down.

Acknowledge your feelings. Write those feelings down. “When … I felt …” Be honest.

How can you take care of yourself? What do you need to give yourself to move on?

Name two actions you can take. Write them down. Make a commitment to take a first step tomorrow. Write that step down. “Tomorrow I will …”

It can be as simple as, tomorrow I will treat myself to a special coffee. Or tomorrow I will repeat three affirmations to myself every time I have a negative thought. Or I will ask … for help with …

Tape that piece of paper to your mirror or your laptop. Congratulations you have already taken a first step.

“Hakuna matata.” From the Lion King

I know, it’s a silly song. There are always worries! But singing this song helps raise my spirits. Try it!

I am a wife, mother, and author. I taught high school for 27 years and I was a hospital and hospice chaplain until my health required that I retire. I miss my hospital coworkers and cannot imagine how terrible this year and last year have been. I want to be there for them in at least this small way.
